EMMET MOORE Q&A
Let's start off with your name and what it is you do. I'm Emmett Moore, an artist/designer known for making one-of-a-kind functional objects.
I live and work just off the Miami River.
What inspires you to do what you do ?
The idea that all objects in your life can be meaningful inspires me to work and push my philosophy in this hybrid area between art and design. I want to live in a space where art, design, and architecture are all in dialogue and of equal importance.
What other passions or hobbies do you like to spend time doing ?
I've been spending a lot of time working on my garden. Lately it's been magical to watch these little orange caterpillars that feed on Coontie turn into Atala butterflies and fly around the yard. My wife and I also watch a lot of racing, sailboats and Formula 1 mostly. She's a pro athlete on the US Sailing Team so I guess that's
technically work for her.
Tell us a bit about what you’re working on currently?
I'm currently trying to figure out how to work in the studio while being a full-time dad. My studio is the entire first floor of my home and we live on the second so I'm really figuring out a work/life balance. I love a challenge.
I'm producing several new bodies of work that will be exhibited during Art Basel Miami 2021. There
are a couple options for venues but this last year has been insane so I'm not really thinking too hard
about where it will be shown. Stay tuned!
Any closing statements,
shout outs, etc?
Shout out to Nina Johnson, my gallerist, who has represented me and my work for nearly nine years.
I've learned a lot from her and she's helped me develop as an artist. We've made a great team these past years and I look forward to more diverse and exciting projects in the future.
