THE P.O.P.
Issue 001: Emmett Moore
The P.O.P. (Portraits of POPLIFE) documents inspiring individuals who
push artistic boundaries and strive for excellence in order to advance the communities around them. Uniting
a wide range of talented creatives
from diverse backgrounds, this
editorial series invites them to share
their passions and the impact they've
had on the realms of hospitality,
music, fashion, art, and design.
For the inaugural issue, POPLIFE had
the pleasure of spending the day with Miami-based artist and designer,
Emmett Moore, at his new home and work studio he designed himself, nicknamed the Boat House. Moore
is known for his interdisciplinary
approach that challenges notions of functionality, primarily creating
sculpture and furniture with
repurposed and reclaimed material.
Read below to get a glimpse
into his everyday life, his artistic
philosophy, and how he balances
it all while being a full-time dad.

Emmett, tell us a little bit about yourself
and what you do.
I'm Emmett Moore, an artist/designer known for making
one-of-a-kind functional objects. I live and work just off the Miami River.
What inspires you?
The idea that all objects in your life can be meaningful inspires me to work and push my philosophy in this hybrid area between art and design. I want to live in a space where art, design, and architecture are all in dialogue and of equal importance.
I'm currently trying to figure out how to work in the studio while being a full-time dad.
My studio takes up the entire first floor of our home. We live on the second floor,
so I'm really trying to figure out a work/life balance. I love a challenge.
What are you currently working on?
What other passions
or hobbies do you
have outside
of art?
I've been spending
a lot of time working
on my garden. Lately it's been magical to
watch these little orange caterpillars
that feed on Coontie turn into Atala butterflies and fly
around the yard.
My wife and I also
watch a lot of racing; sailboats and Formula 1 mostly. She's a pro
athlete on the U.S. Sailing team so I guess that's technically work for her.
What's next?
I'm producing several new bodies of work that will be exhibited during Art Basel Miami 2021. There are a couple options for venues but this last year has been insane so I'm not really thinking too hard about where it will be shown.
Stay tuned!
Anyone you’d like to give a shoutout to?
Shoutout to Nina Johnson, my gallerist, who has represented me and my work for nearly nine years. I've learned a lot from her and she's helped me develop as an artist. We've made a great team these past years and I look forward to more diverse and exciting projects in the future.
